A tussle over a chieftancy stool on Wednesday cost three people their lives at Akwu community, in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The traditional crises began, when two clans in the community disagreed on who to be crowned as the Onu Akwu (village head).
It was learnt that the war over the stool, had been going through legal battle for many years, before it eventually snowballed into physical crises that led to the deaths.
An anonymous source from the community, told New Telegraph that the crises started (irrespective of the fact that the case was in court), when the two clans argued over who to be crowned.
“We were sleeping when we heard commotion from the eastern part of the community and when I came out, some houses were already on fire.”
Twenty houses, according to the source, were burnt to the ground, following the clash which reportedly lasted for five hours.
“We retrieved three bodies and evacuated many injured to health centers and hospitals in Ankpa and environs,” he added.
