The South-East Governors’ Forum has resolved to launch a regional security outfit to protect the geopolitical region of Nigeria.

After meeting in Enugu, the leaders have also written the Federal Government in this regard and were equally satisfied with the arrangement that would lead to the enactment of the law to back up the programme in all Houses of Assembly across the region.

However, chairman of the forum and Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, pointed out that the governors have yet to choose a name for the security outfit that is similar to southwest’s Amotekun.

The governors reached a consensus to have their state assemblies pass laws to establish their own security outfit.

They also affirmed their commitment towards concluding the establishment of the Joint South East Security Outfit to tackle the daunting security challenges in the region

Good initiative, but make it a reality.

When we talked about state police, politicians turned deaf ears. Now, with no security of life in Nigeria, natives will take up arms to fend for their territory and once there is no funding, they will turn to terrorist group and terrorise the people they are meant to protect.
We should have state and grass root policing and the police chiefs should be elected into office. Non performance at your community means you will not be re elected. Nigeria is sliding into anarchy!
