Police in Ogun State have arrested two members of a syndicate who specialised in allegedly vandalising telecommunications mast.
The suspects, identified as 48-year-old Kehinde Bello and Monsuru Bankole, 20, were apprehended at Abule Ogun area of Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said the suspected vandals were nabbed on Sunday.
He disclosed that a Volkswagen bus with registration number APP 871 XH, 12 telecommunications back up batteries valued at about N3 million, gas cylinder, iron cutter and other house breaking equipment were recovered from the suspects.
Oyeyemi explained that the arrest followed a distress call received by the police in Ifo division that hoodlums, numbering about 10 had invaded an Airtel telecommunications mast at Abule Ogun and attempted to cart away its back up batteries.
He said: “On receiving the distress call, the DPO Ifo division, CSP Adekunle Samson, quickly mobilised his anti-robbery team and swiftly moved to the scene.
“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums took to their heels but they were hotly chased and two members of the gang were arrested while others escaped.”
