Former Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan, has again said that he has no account or property abroad.

Mr Jonathan said this in a statement Tuesday.

The statement, signed by Ikechukwu Eze, spokesman to Mr Jonathan, was issued in response to moves by the Nigerian government to subpoena bank records purportedly belonging to Mr Jonathan and his wife, Patience.

“Our attention has been drawn to international media reports to the effect that the Federal Government of Nigeria has subpoenaed bank records for former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan in the United States of America,” Mr Eze said.

“We aver that the Federal Government of Nigeria did not contact Dr. Jonathan or his wife before issuing these subpoenas. If they had, we would have advised them of the fact that you cannot subpoena what does not exist.

“We also remind the public that on March 5, 2014, during the swearing in of new ministers, then President Jonathan said “I am loyal to Nigeria’s economy. I don’t have accounts or property abroad.”

The statement said that between the period Mr Jonathan made claims of not operating foreign account and now, nothing has changed with regards to the former president.

Jonathan may be corrupt ,but the fact that money stolen invested in Nigeria or starched in Nigerian banks just like his mentor Yaradua and Obssanjo did not steal to robust developed economy but instead keeping the money in Nigeria  to boost market shares one way or the other .Therefore, if I’m to pass a judgement on this topic ,I will acquit Jonathan of all corruption allegations.Case closed .IBB ,Abacha ,and the entire northern politicians sold Nigeria into exile by stealing the country wealth to enrich developed nations economy while our economy and infrastructure  staggering . If we are to define the word looters ,I would rather not call a politician who stole to invest in factories and involved in massive development and industrialization a thief . just like dangote did ,such that will spurned growth and create jobs for Nigerians and increase the nations output and overtake GDP growth. Africans wake up ! Give your voice to the continent .Though corruption is epidemic and it’s cancerous to state economy but in developing countries ,corruption is inevitable and we would be lying to say we fighting to eradicate it .Maybe ,just may be in the future generations things may get way better but until then we should adopt a system that protects national interest .Discouraging corruption systemically but reduce the fear of politician investing stolen money domestically .Doing so ,we are not in anyway encouraging corruption but we trying to safeguard stolen money fleeing abroad.
