The United States ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, has disclosed that her country has spent over $32.8m in Nigeria in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She also said the US has spent over $237m in its interventions on the African continent, while its global interventions had reached $32.4bn.⁣

Leonard also disclosed that the US has spent $8bn in supporting Nigeria in the last 20 years, $5.2bn of which was invested in the health sector.⁣

“A lot of assistance have been provided in the structures, systems and habits which turns out to be very directly transferable, relatable, usable during the COVID epidemic,” she said in a virtual conference on Tuesday.⁣
