Kenyans have taken to their social media page to call for justice for DJ Evolve who was allegedly shot twice in the neck by a politician, Babu Owino at the club using hashtag #JusticeforDjEvolve.
The Kenyan DJ and performer Felix Orinda, popularly known as DJ Evolve, was allegedly shot in a club in January 16, 2020 after a misunderstanding with politician MP Paul Ongili aka Babu Owino, representing Embakasi East.
According to reports, eye witnesses at the club claimed it all began with an argument between the DJ and the politician who teased each other about the size of their guns.
Witnesses who were at the club said it all began with banter between the two, who teased each other about the size of their guns. It is not clear if DJ Evolve also had a gun or if gun was a euphemism for something else.
In the middle of the argument which had gone on for minutes, MP Babu pulled out a gun and shot DJ Evolve twice in the neck.
A video of the shooting incident which happened at B-Club, a high-end bar in Nairobi’s Kilimani Estate was shared online and immediately went viral.
DJ Evolve underwent two surgeries and spent several months at the Intensive Care Unit of Nairobi Hospital and was finally discharged in May.
Babu Owino was remanded at the Kilimani Police Station for seven days, arraigned in court and directed to deposit Sh10 million cash bail in four equal installments of Sh2.5 million each for three months to settle DJ Evolve’s medical bills.
However, on Tuesday, March 3, Justice Luka Kimaru said there were no compelling reasons to deny Babu Owino bail, adding that he is not obliged to continue paying the DJ’s medical bill.
Kenyans have now taken to their social media pages to demand justice.
