Trying and discovering new things is one of the real joys of life. Sampling a new TV show or settling down in front of a movie you would never usually watch can be an eye-opening experience, often exposing you to styles and ideas you might have otherwise avoided.
However, while change can quite often be a good thing, it is fair to say that some recent developments in the world of entertainment have suggested that sometimes all we want is the comfort of what we know.
Experiences we know and love
For instance, major movie brands like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars give people the chance to repeatedly head back into well-known franchises to experience adventures with iconic characters that they know and love.
Elsewhere, it could also be argued that the entire online casino industry is based around giving people fresh access to classic games that have been around for years. Slot games have been available in some form or another for decades yet, as this Slots NZ page details, where so-called ‘pokies’ have found a new lease of life online and can also be conveniently accessed on the move via smartphone apps too.
In this vein, mobile gaming is also an area that has embraced the old school in recent times, with classic console characters like Mario and Crash Bandicoot finding a home on smartphones and tablets.
Trios controversy
Now, some recent controversy related to Call of Duty: Warzone has put a spotlight on how many of us love the familiar in video gaming too.
As sites including Express have highlighted in recent weeks, developer Infinity Ward was faced with a backlash of sorts when it chose to remove the regular Trios gameplay mode from Warzone in the latest season of the game. However, after players highlighted their concerns, Infinity Ward confirmed on Twitter it would bring Trios back in a playlist update.
We hear you loud and clear! We'll be doing a playlist update tomorrow night, Thursday, April 16th at 11PM PST that brings BR Trios back to #Warzone.

Express goes on to explain how a new twist has been added to Trios, however, as a Scopes and Scatter Guns mode will mean players only have access to snipers and shotguns. This could well impact on the approach many people take to the game, with Activision explaining in a blog how gamers will either have to get close to targets or alternatively hit them from a distance in order to succeed.
Striking a balance
Such developments around Call of Duty: Warzone are more than just a great example of a developer listening to their fanbase. They also highlight that while many of us are open to new things, we also do love a bit of familiarity too.
It has been a strange time in recent months, so it perhaps makes an element of sense that some people are keen to retain the comfort of a familiar game mode. Developers clearly have a balancing act to pull off in this regard, as they want to keep titles feeling fresh but also not push the envelope too far. New experiences are all well and good, but every now and then there is nothing wrong with simply loving the classics.
