The Head of Service, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, on Tuesday, in Abuja faulted the National Assembly’s Consolidated Salary Structure (CONLESS), saying that it should be reversed.

She stated this at a meeting with the leadership of the National Assembly which according to her, “the processes that resulted in the current salary structure of Civil servants in the National Assembly were faulty, and illegal.”

The meeting has the Senate President, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila present, when the Head of Service faulted the amendment made by the 8th National Assembly to effect a consolidated salary structure for civil servants in the National Assembly.
She said: “In my view, the National Assembly ought to reverse the salary structure currently being operated by the National Assembly.”

She argued that the National Assembly is not different from the core civil service to warrant a consolidated salary structure, particularly that they do nothing different from what other public servants do.

“I want to advise that the salary structure like the condition of service be discontinued and reversed for due process to be followed.

“If the leadership of the National Assembly gives in to my advice, staff of the National Assembly will cease to benefit from the consolidated salary structure.
In 2010, the National Assembly effected some changes in line with the condition of service currently being operated hence, the salary structure as it stands today.
