BBC is reporting that Chinese branded phones that are popularly sold in Nigeria, Tecno W2 phones has secret malware installed in them. A total of over 53,000 units has been sold in Ethiopia, Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana and South Africa. The news website describes the phone company of taking advantage of the "most vulnerable".
"The fact that the malware arrives pre-installed on handsets that are bought in their millions by typically low-income households tells you everything you need to know about what the industry is currently up against," said Geoffrey Cleaves, head of Upstream's Secure-D platform.
Personal information and privacy is not of value in poor countries like Nigeria which is why Tecno remains one of the most popular phone in these countries as they strive to continuously dominate the citizens who do not earn enough to buy a Samsung or Apple iPhone.
