The Vicar of Anglican Church of the Epiphany, Abuja, the Ven. Ifeanyi Akunna, has called on the Federal Government to ban Big Brother Nigeria reality show and other similar programmes.

Akunna, who made the call in a message entitled: ‘A House Built on Faulty Foundation,’ said such programmes promote immorality and erode the moral foundations upon which Nigerian youths should build on.

The cleric also tasked the government on restoring moral values and the dignity of education in Nigeria. According to him, the addiction of Nigerians to such reality shows as BBNaija does not add to their moral value.

He added that Satan’s plan and work was to constantly pollute the hearts and minds of viewers of the programme with nudity and porn to divert them from God’s ways.

“All who watch the reality programme should desist from it ad ask God for forgiveness, as it does not promote a healthy relationship with God. Neither does it promote healthy marital values. These things contribute to the faulty foundation upon which people build their lives and future. Any foundation that is not built on Jesus Christ must surely collapse, as only Jesus is the sure anchor of our lives and souls,” he said.

The Vicar urged the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) to scrap the programme and censor programmes that do not teach moral values. He regretted that the media and the entertainment industry in Nigeria paid no attention to the damaging effects of their contents.

Dopy, why are you disturbing yourself over this BBnaija stuff. Do you think NBC is stupid, neither is BBnaija organizers stupid. They went through the process of registering BBnaija. For your information NBC knows the type of contents to be showed on BBnaija. It is a programme rated 18, therefore there is nothing to hold against them. They are still within the laws of NBC. You guys should stop bothering yourselves over NBC banning the programme. They barely still within the armbit of the law.
