Check Out 4 Signs Gov. Godwin Obaseki Will Decamp To APC

The battle for the gubernatorial seat of Edo state has been fought and won by Godwin Obaseki under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party. A lot of people have also alleged that Godwin Obaseki will decamp to APC but the governor have openly denied that fact.It is my opinion that there are signs that point the fact that the governor, Godwin Obaseki will decamp to APC. We all know that politicians do not keep to their words. Every political analyst do not predict a politician based on what he says but on what he does. The following signs point to the fact that Godwin Obaseki will decamp to APC.

1. He is the first Opposition Candidate to be congratulated by the president after his victory.
Most elections in this country end in a litigation, but the case of Godwin Obaseki is quite different. The president congratulated Obaseki and commended the National Electoral Commission on September 20, 2020, this was made known by the tweet of the presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, even though Obaseki contested under the platform of an opposition party.This is a rare occurrence in Nigerian politics. It is an indication that some faction of APC may have worked for him.

2. He visited the president after his victory
Governor Obaseki’s visit to president, Buhari on September 25, 2020 in Abuja after his electoral victory even though he contested under the platform of an opposition party is indicative that perhaps, there may have been a discussion concerning his decamping back to APC. This was widely alleged in the media but Obaseki denied this. However politicians are judged based on their antecedents and not by their words.

3. Godwin Obaseki was congratulated by the National chairman of APC
It is very rare and quite uncommon for the national hierarchy of an opposing party to congratulate a candidate from another party. As it has been widely suspected that Edo election was a battle for 2023. The top hierarchy of the APC may have worked against Adams Oshiomhole’s faction of the APC, thereby enabling Godwin Obaseki to win the election.The presidential ambition of Tinubu may perhaps not be welcomed by some top hierarchy of APC.

4. From the inception, Obaseki’s gut and ability to unseat Adams Oshiomhole as party chairman shows he has support of top party hierarchy.
From inception of the battle between Obaseki and his political godfather, Adams Oshiomhole, it is evident that Obaseki had the support of some top party hierarchy, that was why his moves was capable of dethroning Adams Oshiomhole as party chairman.
