The Nigerian Army has said that in hindsight, it will not have taken a different line of action if presented again with a scenario similar to the Oct. 20 shooting incident at the Lekki Tollgate.

The Nigerian Army made the assertion on Saturday at the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry for Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and Other Matters.

Representing the Army was Brig.-Gen. Ahmed Taiwo, Commander of the 81 Division, Military Intelligence Brigade, Victoria Island.

He made the assertion while being cross-examined by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

“Given the same set of circumstances, the military would have acted in the same way. After every operation, we usually do an After Action Review and come up with lessons learnt.

“I have looked at the tollgate issue with the same set of facts. We wouldn’t have acted differently,”
he said.

Responding to questions from Mr Bernard Oniga, the lawyer representing the NBA, the witness explained why the army did not take the alternative route which avoided the tollgate if they were clearing up the Eti-Osa corridor as claimed.

“The discretion was at the hands of the commander, they were attacked by hoodlums and they responded,” he said.

Taiwo also denied that the actions of the military at the Lekki Tollgate triggered the wanton destruction of properties and loss of lives in Lagos.

“There was wanton loss of life and destruction of properties before the Lekki Tollgate incident. The loss of lives on Oct. 21 was on the Eti-Osa corridor and the loss of life were cult boys settling scores.

‘I saw businesses being torched, some plazas were torched while some were left. I do not know the connection between that and the Lekki Tollgate plaza.

“If they were reacting to the Nigerian Army they could have burned down an army barracks,”
he said.

Wonder how foolish some Nigerians reason. Imagine some people asking why the Army should go to Lekki with live ammo. If the police was overwhelmed, and hell let loose, pray who should quell the situation. As far as I know, the Army going to Lekki had nothing to do with the massive destruction of infrastructures all over Lagos: do we have Lekki in Edo State, and other cities in the Country, where these destructions also occurred? The whole thing had been in the Agenda of the Convener of the #EndSARS protest."If I cannot get to rule the Country, I can well destroy it for those that are holding to It tight".

Are the army supposed to go there with live Bullets In the first place? What happened to Blank bullets as it is been used to dispensed protesters in other parts of the world?? The youths  went on reprisal attack after Lekki killings because touch of one is a touch to all and you are here  asking  if we have Lekki in Edo as you believed that the gruesome killing of innocent youhths by the army has nothing to do with the destructions of properties..  Instead of you to sit and reason with your head, you are here type nonsense..

. You definitelybelong to the clique of compound fools i refer to. Whst do you think the hoodlums use in eliminating the policemen during the riots: stones or barehands. The idiots were heavily atmed, snf these are the people you want the army to go and romsnce eith. You must know the army is trained to kill any potential enemy; and when you invite the army, you must have run out of every available peaceful solutions. It is hypocritical of Nigerians to be mourning these #EndSARS idiots, when they are the architect of the whole problem we are facing; they are not even suppose to embark on any Protest that has not been approved by this same Government that turned out to be playing Tom and Jerry with the idiots.
