NIGERIA has become a member of immediate family of the Federation of International Football, FIFA, so issues related to the country has to be passionately handled, says Thierry Regenass, FIFA Director of Member Association and Development.

FIFA last week provisionally lifted a ban on Nigeria  just in time for the country to meet the date of a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea in Conakry last Sunday.

''When we talk of members in FIFA, we know perculiarities and we also know that in Nigeria, football is  the  number one sport, we  saw the beauty of the U-20 finals in 1999 and the U-17 finals last year,  whatever we decide on issues about Nigeria have far reaching consequence on the people of the country,'' Regenass said last Thursday in South Africa.

He revealed that over the years, debates about Nigeria take longer procedure at FIFA's Executive meetings because '' it is always difficult which position influential individuals from Nigeria take on sensitive issues'’

The FIFA chief expressed the hope that by October 26 when an impending suit against the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, might have been resolved out of court, Nigeria's ban will be automatically reversed.

''In this game we need the Nigerians so much,'' he added.
