Under heavy security presence, Jonathan said at the opening of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company on Friday, that he was pleased to be associated with the achievement intended to boost the country‘s economy.
The President, who was accompanied by governors, ministers and other top government functionaries, regretted that Nigeria presently trailed behind countries that featured at the same level with her in economic and industrial development at 1960 when colonial rule ended.
He, however, described the opening of the motor company as an indication of the drive expected of Nigeria as she enters another 50 years of her independence.
”We thank God for this young man that has brought the industry into the country, which according to him, has definitely created jobs to improve the economy of the place,” Jonathan remarked.
He said, ”Today is a day of happiness. It is an indication of the drive we expect as we enter another 50 years of Ndigbo as an independent nation. At 1960, the countries that we featured at the same level of economic and industrial development have left us behind.
”The present Nigerian generation agreed that we must retrace our history and move forward, meet them up and surpass them.‘‘
Gov. Peter Obi of Anambra State recalled that after the foundation laying ceremony of the company, the Chinese nationals who came to commence construction work on the site were kidnapped, which led to the death of one of them.
