Speaking to brilafm, the former national captain remarked the home lads are better placed to play and advance the cause of the team during the qualifiers than their colleagues based abroad, considering the rugged and compact nature of African football.
The former Harambe Stars of Kenya coach said: “Use the home-based to prosecute the matches. African football is very hard and it does not allow for space. The foreign-based players should be allowed to rest and the home based play the qualifiers. Then when the qualifiers are done the foreign based can be called in, this will give room for competition. It should not be a situation where the foreign based just come in and pick a shirt.”
Nigeria lost her last qualifier against the Syli Nationales of Guinea in Conakry last weekend but the positive impact of the home-based substitutes who graced the game in the second half left many asking why they were not given the green light to start the encounter despite being in camp for two weeks before the match.
