Kolade told the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja that Nigerians should ensure they registered to enable them to vote during the elections.
“What I want us to do is to take the focus away from INEC and put it on ourselves.
“INEC has the power to organise but INEC does not have any vote. INEC is not the one that should hold the people in authority accountable.
“We as citizens should go out there, make sure we register, make sure we vote,” he said.
According to him, citizens should monitor their votes ‘in order to ensure that by so doing’ hooligans will not have the space to do away with the votes.
He noted that rigging and snatching of ballot boxes witnessed in the country was because citizens were yet to play their role effectively during the election.
He called on all stakeholders to ensure that Nigerians were properly educated for the 2011 elections.
“We can only do that if we realise the importance of election. That this is why I say, let all of us begin to let the citizens know how important it is for them to register to vote.
“Then to remain interested in that, because if anybody is trying to rig elections or to carry the game away, we as citizens are the ones to stop them; because we know that the establishment is compromised, and weakened.”
