Nigeria has often been considered one of the fastest growing tech capitals in the world, with huge waves of investments for the growing tech markets that have emerged over the past few years. One of the big expansions that has begun over the past few years has been within the mobile gaming market, as the rapid adoption of smartphones have allowed the emerging mobile gaming market to see a surge of new players.

The past few years in Nigeria have seen the mobile gaming market grow by up to 50% or more per year and is expected to continue growing much in the same way with unique mobile subscribers expected to reach 130 million in 2025 – part of the growth is largely due to the growing penetration of smartphones within Nigeria as accessibility to both newer and older devices continue to increase, and with that the increased attention to mobile gaming. Big telecom companies in the region have also helped fuel this growth, the likes of MTN have developed their own gaming hubs so players in the region have easy access to some of the most played games on the market.

There’s also plenty of opportunity now to ensure these platforms are safe and operate in favour of the players – there has been a lot of discussion over the past few years around certain features within modern games such as microtransactions that plague the mobile space as it encourages a lot of spending with little gain – some regulation has already started for betting and casino sites as sites such as www.bettingsites.ng rely on the licensing given to operate, and the same will remain true when these services become more readily available online too, but if there can be efforts made to reduce the negative impacts of gaming that have been identified in other large markets over the past few years.

This is a unique opportunity though, many other countries have widespread smartphone usage in place before modern gaming had become available and so had to be reactive with the management of both apps and games, but the difference with the emergence in Nigeria is that the growth of smartphones and the grown of mobile gaming are seemingly starting hand in hand, and so preparations can be made and a learning experience from other regions which a much better platform for success – similarly more information and knowledge can be passed on to the new players to know the best ways to approach plays with the least risk, as education has  been proven to be extremely important as this space continues to grow and newer opportunities become available for investors, developers, and the players who will be using the services.
