Suspected armed robbers from Aba, Abia State have met their waterloo in Lagos. The suspects, who stormed Lagos, met stiff resistance from the police, who arrested two of them and recovered two revolver pistols, 34 AK 47 magazines and several rounds of live ammunition from them.

Daily Sun gathered that some policemen from Satellite division got a distress call that armed robbers were operating along Old Ojo Road, Mazamaza axis and moved to the scene and rescued a woman, a resident of Navy town from the hands of two suspected armed robbers.

The police arrested the suspects and recovered from them one revolver pistol, seven live ammunition, motorcycle with registration number QW 513 KRD used by the robbers, and the sum of N68,000.00. One of the suspects simply identified as Sodiq allegedly confessed that his gang, which divided itself into three groups, had just relocated to Lagos from Abia State for fear of soldiers who are currently combing the state for criminals.

Also at the weekend, a team of mobile policemen from Mopol 22, Ikeja in a Central Bank of Nigeria bullion van engaged some armed robbers who attempted to hijack the van in a shoot-out on Eko Bridge. The robbers were said to have fled and abandoned one revolver pistol and 8 live cartridges which were recovered by the police.

Similarly, some policemen from Ojo division had a shoot-out with some suspected armed robber at Alaba International Market. The robbers were said to have fled the scene abandoning 34 AK 47 magazines and 24 live ammunition.
A senior police officer from the state Anti Robbery Squad (SARS),, Panti told Daily Sun that preliminary investigation had shown that some robbers who were feeding on kidnapping in Abia State had relocated to Lagos following the onslaught on them by the soldiers who were currently dealing with them in the state.

He said what the robbers failed to understand “is that we are battle ready for them. Our commissioner of police had gotten information about relocation of robbers from Abia to Lagos through the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) and he has properly briefed us. We won’t give them chance to operate. Lagos State will be too hot for them”

Lagos State Police Spokesman, Mr Frank Mbah, who confirmed the encounters between police and armed robbers, said two suspects were arrested and that they were helping the police in its investigation. He said SARS had been ordered to go on with investigation and to arrest the fleeing suspects within a short period of time.

He warned criminals especially robbers to quit the state or risk the wrath of the command which was fully prepared for them.
