The Kogi State Police Command says it has recovered about 140 illegal arms in the state within the past two months.
Spokesman of the command, Abubakar Nasir Mohammed, who spoke to our correspondent yesterday, expressed concerns over what he described as proliferation of arms in the state, saying there were facts to link the arms and politicians.

“About 140 sophisticated weapons, including AK 47s, locally made pistols, dane guns among others, have been recovered from various places within Kogi in the past two months.

Politicians are becoming too dangerous. Most of them have not been arrested directly, but we have arrested their agents, who prefer death to disclosing their sponsors. They told us they took oaths never to disclose their sponsors,” he said.

He added that the 47 politicians recently paraded for illegal possession of arms in the state had been charged to court.

Mohammed, who said political leaders and youths in the state have been cautioned severally against violence, added that the command had deployed men and equipment to all parts of the state, to combat violence during the next general elections.
