An unidentified driver on Wednesday afternoon killed a man at Okija junction in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra while crossing the road.
Mr. Andrew Kumapayi, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka.
“An unidentified driver of an unknown vehicle knocked down a yet-to-be-identified male adult and sped off. It was a case of hit and run.
“FRSC rescue team from Ihiala Command rushed the victim to Osungwu Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty and his body deposited at the mortuary,” he said.
According to the commander, an eyewitness who was at the scene said that the pedestrian was knocked down by the speeding driver while crossing the road.
Mr Andrew Kumapayi, while warning motorists against speed limit violation, advised pedestrians to be watchful when crossing or walking along the road to avoid such incident.
