No fewer than 139 suspected hard drug dealers and users were arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Oyo State Command, with a seizure of 7,019kilograms of Indian hemp, between January and September. State Commander, Mr. Suleiman Jadi, told Daily Sun that two out of these suspects were female:

“Just yesterday( Thursday last week), we arrested and charged eight suspects to court.” According to him, drug dealing generally cuts across all strata of the society: “But when it comes to drug abuse it falls between the age brackets of youth. I mean ages between 14 and 35 or 40years.”

The NDLEA also discovered some farms in the state government’s owned Gambari Forest Reserve, Shaki and Okeho, a border town between Nigeria and Benin Republic where India hemp was planted.

However, the agency succeeded in destroying those farms, but still kept telling farmers and hunters in the state to be vigilant and alert the NDLEA or the police if they see any farm where such farms exist in their locality.
Jadi while drugs like cocaine, heroin and other psychotropic substances being produced outside the country were not common in the state because they are expensive, India hemp is a common hard.
