Former Inspector General of Police, Ogbonna Onovo has said that throughout his tenure as IGP he never received N1 billion to pay contractors, not to talk of N3 billion.

Onovo, who spoke to Nigerian Tribune on telephone from the United States of America at the weekend, said that it was absurd for anyone to insinuate that he received the sum of N3 billion to pay police contractors.

He denied ever knowing any group called the Association of Police Contractors Suppliers which accused some senior officers in the Nigeria Police of selling contractors and diverting monies meant for the execution of certain contracts into their private pockets.

The former IGP noted that it would be wrong to accuse anybody of embezzling money for supplies because these monies were not released quarterly to various department.

According to him, “I know that as the transport department gets its allocation quarterly they had a drawn up chart for payment of previous debts, which they had followed religiously.”
