What will the next-gen Toyota Avanza be like?

Based on various reports, there are those saying that the MPV will shift to a front-wheel-drive unibody chassis. If so, it's a significant departure from the current Avanza that sits on a body-on-frame, rear-wheel-drive platform. It might use the new DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform, which is essentially an extension of the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) structure.

Shifting to a unibody, front-wheel-drive platform has several implications for Daihatsu and Toyota. If the next Avanza adapts to this new chassis, we can also expect the Rush to do the same. Like the Avanza, the Rush is based on a Daihatsu product; the Terios, in this case. The DNGA underpinnings might even serve as the basis of the future Daihatsu Ayla-based Toyota Wigo. However, there are no reports of a next-generation Wigo just yet. That said, it's also due for a full model change as the current model is now seven years old.
