Gunmen killed an Anglican Priest, Reverend Emeka Merenu at his parsonage at Orsu Ihiteukwa in Orsu Local government area Imo State.

Until his brutal murder on Tuesday, Rev Emeka Merenu was the priest-in-charge of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Ihitte Ukwa, in the Orsu LGA of the state.

It was gathered that the attackers stormed the church premises and butchered the priest in the early hours of Tuesday, before setting his vehicle ablaze.

According to source who said that the priest was killed on an unfounded allegation that he brought in military men to secure the secondary school under his supervision.

“The priest in charge of St Andrew’s Anglican Church in Ihitte-Ukwa in Orsu Local Government Area  of Imo State was killed this morning.

“His attackers stormed the church compound where he lived, butchered him and burnt his car before running away.”

When asked what could be the reason for the murder, the source said:

“The church has a school on the premises. His attackers were probably angry that the priest gave security protection to the students of the school who were sitting this year’s West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination.”

When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Micheal Abattam, confirmed the murder of the priest, adding, “Investigation has commenced with a view to arresting the suspects.

The killing of the priest comes hours after gunmen invaded a school in Imo, and chased away students who were participating in the ongoing 2021 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE), on Monday.

IPOB are just a bunch of cultists and terrorists who have shown themselves no better than Bandits. Swearing allegiance to their cult leader Kanu, killing their own igbos they feel are against IPOB and Kanu, killing igbo girls and using them for protective charm, and some idiotic igbos are defending, they dont understand, such killings defiles and curses the land, the SE is cursed, any igbo agenda is cursed. You claim to be a people of tradition, look at what you are doing to yourselves, ABOMINATION. Tradition abhors cultism and gangsterism to which you now embrace, support and defend. The gods have been silenced and the land defiled with cow dung, igbo blood, marauding bandits/herdsmen and IPOB cultists/gangsters, and the ramifications will last in SE for a very long time.

Please, don't insult Igbo's with the guise of making your points against IPOB and ESN. First of all, you cant confirm the actual people that did this because anything is possible in that Nigeria. Though, I for one, condemns most actions of the IPOB, especially the issue of enforcing sit at home and killing of their fellow Igbo people, or the destruction of their means of livelihood.  Killing a priest is an abomination, and in this case, a priest that is concerned about the future of kids. Sometimes, I wonder the kind of Biafra that these IPOB people want, is it going to be a Biafra littered with illiterates?. Do they think that time will stop for them?, as they prevent their children, brothers, sisters, cousins etc from taking exams that will take them further in life, others elsewhere will take it and leave them behind. This sit at home (civil  disobedience) is a well known form of protest, but it can only be effective when the central government feels the impact. In the case of IPOB, Buhari is not having any single impact of their frequent sit at home, rather, it is the same Igbo people that are feeling the heat. The economy of the South east has been annihilated by this, and our aged parents are now struggling to feed. This is a self inflicted injury, and as I see it, if IPOB should continue on this path, a rival Igbo group will emerge will far more population and then, a free for all internal fight will commence. When I talk about another group, I don't mean anything that has to do with our present day leaders, but will be spearheaded by an ordinary person that is as aggrieved as most people in Biafraland today. IPOB should listen to the voice of reason, but this has been their greatest fault. They want to be heard, but they dont want to listen.
