The Eid-el-Kabir celebration turned sour in Bauchi as a police inspector, whose identity was not revealed for security reasons but was said to be attached to the highway patrol team of the Bauchi State Police Command, allegedly shot and seriously wounded a passenger on his legs on the Bauchi- Jos road over N20 tip.
Speaking with newsmen over the incident in Bauchi, Bauchi State Acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Mohammed Abdulkadir Indabawa, said: “Police have commenced investigation over the shooting of a passenger in order to know the actual reason the police inspector did the shooting.”
Indabawa further said that already the inspector had been arrested and removed from the highway patrol duties in line with the relevant police laws, just as he would be adequately punished if found guilty after all investigations would have been completed.
He added that in line with the police laws on officers involved in any criminal act, the case of the inspector would be forwarded to the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), saying, “I have spoken with the Inspector General of Police about the case and he had directed that after we have finished investigations, we should send the detail of our findings to the AIG because officers from the rank of an inspector and above are referred to the AIG for necessary disciplinary actions.”
