Four people, including a couple, Dr and Mrs Adedeji Tella, have been arrested for allegedly beating a landlord, Mr Kehinde Okuola (60), to death, four days after his daughter’s wedding at Agbowo area of Ibadan, in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Other suspects, who are currently being detained at Kajorepo Police Station on the Ojoo-Iwo road, are the younger brother of Dr. Tella and a refuse collector.

They were said to have beaten the retired military personnel to death on Monday during an argument over refuse collection.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that after the wedding, the deceased had arranged with a refuse collector to come and pack the refuse in the evening.

But when he arrived for the exercise, an argument ensued between him and the tenants over the time of the collection.

The refuse collector was said to have left the place to lodge complaint with the deceased’s wife, Mrs Elizabeth Okunola, at her shop but before he came back, the man had been beaten to death.

The Nigerian Tribune learnt that immediately the refuse collector left, the couple and their younger brother allegedly locked the gate and started beating the man. They were said to have hit him on the head with a rod and bite him on the hand.

It was further gathered that since the wife and the children were not at home during the incident, all efforts by neighbours to rescue the deceased failed as they were shouting that there was no problem.

Immediately the neighbours discovered that the landlord had been beaten to death, they vandalised a Honda car with registration number TU 917 KJA belonging to the couple.

Both the wife of the deceased, Elizabeth, and his first child, 31-year-old Segun, who confirmed the incident, said that the deceased was first rushed to King David’s Hospital from where he was transferred to the University College Hospital (UCH), where he passed on few hours later.

According to Segun, his father was taken to UCH on Monday around 10.30 pm and died on Tuesday at 6.15 a.m.
