"In 2006, exports of oil and minerals from Africa were worth roughly $249 billion, nearly six times the value of international aid. If used properly, this huge transfer of wealth could be one of the best chances in a generation to lift many of the world's poorest and most dispossessed citizens out of poverty. Yet in many resource-rich countries corruption in the natural resource sector has led directly to conflict, human rights abuses and a worsening of inequality and poverty".
