The interception and impoundment of the vehicle came barely two weeks after the command intercepted a vehicle belonging to a member of the House of Representatives, which was used to convey weeds suspected to be Indian hemp by an aide of the lawmaker.
The vehicle, a Nissan pick-up, with registration number, Abuja HF 553 ABC, was reportedly intercepted by a team of highway patrol police officers on Oluku-Ahor Road, in Benin City, on Friday, November 26, 2010.
It was gathered that the occupants of the vehicle allegedly refused to stop when they were flagged down by the police, which forced policemen to go after them.
Apparently to escape arrest, the driver and the two other occupants of the vehicle abandoned the vehicle and fled into the bush, just as the police recovered the vehicle.
Upon a search, the police reportedly recovered two other vehicle number plates, Abuja BL 446 ABJ, and Presidency-PF 3042 SP/T, as well as the 43 bags of weeds.
Police spokesman, Awhara Ejiroro, said the police were yet to trace the vehicle to anyone and that investigations were still ongoing.
