"Send Your Children To School, Be Security Conscious" – Yobe Commissioner, Amshi Tells Herders

Indigenous herders in Yobe State have been urged to send their children to school and be security conscious.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Mairo Ahmed Amshi, made the call on Saturday when she visited Jakusko/Nasari Grazing Reserve project sites.

Recall that the Yobe State Government had signed a N2.5 billion contract to commence the first phase of establishing the Federal Government approved Livestock Development Centre in Jakusko/Nasari Grazing Reserve.

To actualize the project, Dr. Amshi led top officials of the Ministry and other experts from the Federal Government to the grazing reserve to monitor the take-off of the project.

The Commissioner, while addressing newsmen, thanked the Federal Government and Yobe for initiating the project. She also expressed joy over the support and cooperation exhibited by the herders residing in the reserve which according to her will aid the success of the project.

Amshi used the forum to call on the herders to enroll their children into schools and be security conscious in order to sustain the existing peace in the area and the state at large.

The National President of Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN), Khalil Muhammad Bello, expressed optimism that the project will boost livestock production, improve peace and reduce animal diseases outbreak due to the influx of migratory herders the neighboring countries.

He charged herdsmen to take the opportunity and improve their living conditions.

Facilities to be provided in the grazing reserve include, 50 units of two bedroom apartments as herdsmen settlement, 12 units of solar-powered boreholes, five units of earth dams both for human and animal consumption, veterinary clinic as well as school among others.
