
The cream of the society which included former presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida witnessed the thanksgiving service held by the former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola to mark his exit from office.
Apart from the two leaders, others at the service held at St Michael’s Anglican Cathedral, Okuku, Osun State include: Governors Gbenga Daniel and Adebayo Alao-Akala of Ogun and Oyo States respectively, Minister of Youth Development,
Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, Secretary to Oyo State Government, Chief Olayiwola Olakojo, former SSG, Osun State, and Alhaji Fatai Akinbade. Others including: Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun, Mallam Yusuf Alli, SAN, Alhaji Adebayo Adelodun, SAN, Otunba Kunle Kalejaye, SAN, Otunba Femi Pedro, Generals Patrick Aziza and Tunde Osanupin, former Commander, Brigade of Guards were also in attendance.
Oyinlola, in his remarks thanked God for giving him the opportunity to serve the people for seven and a half years just as he expressed his deep appreciation to Nigerian people for their “wonderful show of support” since the Court of Appeal verdict that ousted him. He urged the people to fortify his successor with prayers because “Osun State is our Jerulsalem.”
Oyinlola said his joy knew no bounds for the achievements he recorded while in power stressing that the welfare of the people he ruled over was the focal point of his seven and a half years in power. The ex-governor while thanking the labour force in the state noted that no worker was unjustly treated by his administration throughout his tenure just as he said projects were evenly distributed across all zones in the state irrespective of the politics of the areas.
On the court verdict which ousted him, Oyinlola said he had not lost any sleep over the matter because “if there is no disappointment, their cannot be appointment.” The former Lagos State military administrator who thanked Obasanjo, Babangida, Daniel, Akala, the minister and all other dignitaries for honouring him with their presence noted that it was wonderful that an array of people across the country witnessed the thanksgiving service despite the fact that he did not send out any formal invitation letters or cards.
He prayed that Almighty God would continue to take charge of the affairs of the state for the good of the people of the Osun state.
