Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo has urged parents with underaged children to be mindful when using video-focused social media app, TikTok.

 In a video she shared on her Instagram page, the mum of two stated that TikTok is fun and good but that it is not for children.

She advised parents who want their children to be signed up on the app to ensure they put their ages on it so the app can automatically restrict what they can have access to.

 She Said;

''I noticed that a lot of parents especially parents with kids of between 4 to 13 years old allow their kids download TikTok but I don't think you know they neeed to put their age on it so that they are restricted to certain things they can see on TikTok because TikTok is not an app for kids. A lot of things go on on TikTok and they probably might get confused especially when they get to see a whole lot of things that I don't think you want to grow up and become

I notice that a lot of parents know that you can put your child's age on it so that it restricts what they are going to be seeing on TikTok. They would see things that have to do with their age, they would see things that have to do with kids but when you allow them download TikTok and they are just handling a TikTok account, they are going to be seeing a whole lot of things there that you might not really want them to see but you wouldn't know. TikTok is fun, it's good but it is not for children. ''

This is a complicated topic for many parents. In fact, it is very difficult to restrict children and not allow them to access social networks such as TikTok. I was able to do this with my daughter until the age of 11. I managed to persuade her, forbid her, and so on. But when she turned 11 years, tantrums began, and it became impossible. She constantly accused me of spending a lot of time in TikTok, and I didn't allow her. We agreed that she would sit in TikTok for no more than an hour and in my presence.
It's tough to forbid a child when running a TikTok myself. It's my job, but she doesn't understand it.

Why isn't it for children? Any illicit content must be banned even if it is meant for adults. So it is not the platform that matters, but manners of those who post. But I prefer Twitch anyway. And buy twitch followers on a regular basis to get noticed. I know that nobody will like me for just being me, in no social media.
