PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday, conferred Nigerian citizenship on four Americans, one Briton and 92 other foreign nationals, who have been found worthy of Nigeria citizenship.

Among the recipients, who were presented with citizenship certificates of naturalisation and registration, are the wife of the former governor of Oyo State, Mrs. Rashidat Rasheed Ladoja and the wife of Minister of Interior, Mrs. Emmanuel Ihenacho.

Jonathan, represented by the Minister of Interior, Capt. Emmanuel Iheanacho, at the ceremony held at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja said the conferment of Nigeria citizenship on the deserving foreigners was in substantial compliance and strict adherence to the enabling laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Conspicuously, absent at the occasion was the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigrations Service, Mrs. Rose Uzoma, who supervises the nation’s immigration affairs. No reason was given for her absence but the minister said he was unhappy with the development.

According to the breakdown of the awardees, 38 were granted citizenship by naturalization, 44 were by registration, while the remaining 15 persons out of the 92 foreign nationals, were the past approvals communicated after last year’s ceremony.

This is just complete rubbish. Listen to what they said, the people granted citizenship are ''wife of former governor, wife of minister''. These are people who are just liquidating Nigeria's economy. Go to Europe and America, they grant citizenship to people from poor backgrounds without anybody knowing as long as they are of good character. Nonsense.
