A dismissed Police Inspector, John Terso, has been arrested by operatives of Edo Police Command for allegedly parading himself as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP 1) attached to IRT.

A statement by the State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Kontongs Bello, disclosed that the 45-year-old indigene of Benue State who was enlisted into the force in the year 2000, trained at the Police College, Kaduna and rose to the rank of an Inspector.

He was, however, dismissed from the force on 13 February, 2019, for professional misconduct.

According to the statement, “the suspect claimed to be a tracker with the department.

“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to defrauding one Saliu Gideon Olauntoba of N185,000 under the guise of helping him to track iPhone 12promax, iPhone 11promax, iPhone Xr, Infinix Hd, Infinix Smart 5.

“The suspect also defrauded one Gloria Aziengbe of N20,000 for the same purpose which he could not deliver.

Bello said the suspect would be charged to court for impersonating and obtaining money under false pretence at the end of the investigation.

The Command also arrested four suspected kidnappers and four cultists.

Two of the suspected kidnappers, Adamu Usman (23), Mohammed Mamah (21), were arrested on 22 March, 2022, at Erah Camp, after they were sighted by one of their victims who escaped from their den along Afuze-Auchi road, on 16 March, 2022.

Their arrest and interrogation also led to the arrest of their partners-in-crime, Ibrahim Abdullahi (22) and Abubakar Babagida (23).

In a related department, the suspected cultists, Goodluck I. (28), Nosakhare Ken (32), Omosuwe Austin (28) and Femi Ado (32), were on 27 March, 2022, at Ogbe Road Auchi.

Their arrest was a sequel to a complaint by one of their victims (name withheld), that hoodlums while wielding cutlass, guns and other dangerous weapons, conspired and shot his brother and one other while they beat and videoed others.

“The hoodlums made the video viral on different social media handles and further threatened them to leave Auchi town or risk being killed.

“On receipt of the complaint, the Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations DCP Miller Dantawaye, immediately directed the immediate arrest of the hoodlums.

“On 27/03/2022 the operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit of the Command tracked and arrested the suspect in connection with the incidents.

“In the course of the interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, stating that they are members of Eiye confraternity,”
the police statement added.

Items recovered from them include; one English Pump Action gun, one live cartridge, five expended cartridges, three face caps bearing Eiye confraternity and one blue facemask.
