Nigerian entrepreneur and publisher of the defunct Third Eye Newspaper, Chief Akanni Aluko, has passed on.

A source close to the family told SaharaReporters that Aluko died on Friday, July 1 at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The 78-year-old entrepreneur was said to have been battling an undisclosed ailment for some time.

Aluko was the Chairman of Island Club and High Chief in Ilesha, Osun State, Nigeria.

He was a geologist and the only child of Mrs Adedoja Aluko from Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

He was the father of Kola Aluko, a Nigerian energy business magnate with interests in African infrastructure development and aviation. Kola Aluko is the Co-Chief Officer and an Executive Director of Atlantic Energy, an indigenous, private upstream oil and gas company, focused on independent exploration and production in Nigeria.

Kola Aluko was ranked by Forbes Africa as one of the 40 richest Africans, as well as included in the Top Ten list of Successful African Entrepreneurs to Follow on Twitter.

The New African Magazine (November 2013 issue) included Aluko in their 100 Most Influential Africans listing and issue.

In March, Kolawole Akanni Aluko, lost his bid to reclaim some of his assets forfeited to the Nigerian Government over alleged corruption and money laundering.

Among the assets seized is a mansion in Abuja which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said was valued at about $18 million.
