No fewer than seventy births have been recorded at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps since January, 2022, in Benue State.

The Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Emmanuel Shior, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, July 15.

According to him, “The agency is very strict on illicit s#xual affairs in the camps. It is very difficult to control the tide of births in the camps, the IDPs are human beings.

It is the nature of man, even when they don’t have food to eat, they have the desire for s#x; that cannot be taken away from the IDPs. Most of them have their families at the camps.

The aspect we try to control is unmarried people sleeping with each other; other unlawful segxwal acts are also forbidden in the camps. But between January and now, we have roughly between 70 plus to 80 childbirths that have been recorded.”
