Moment Tobi Amusan Breaks Down In Tears As She Receives Gold Medal After Breaking Word Record

Tobi Amusan did Nigeria proud at the just concluded World Athletics championship in Oregon, United States, setting a new world record.

The new world champion who lives and trains in El Paso in the United States, won the 100m hurdles in 12.06 seconds (wind-aided).

For the first time ever in its 39 years of existence, the Nigerian national anthem was played at the World Championship with Tobi Amusan facing the flag.

The world record holder was overcome with emotion and broke down in tears as she received her gold medal, faced the flag for the anthem and then received her $100k cheque for breaking the world record.

Speaking on her win which makes her the first Nigerian athlete in history to become a World Champion, Amusan said,

“I couldn’t be more thankful. I have come out here with a win and the world record.”
