Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has explained why he met with Peoples Democratic Party presidential (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, Mr Peter Obi, Labour Party presidential (LP) candidate and former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, in London.

Wike said he and his team met with the Nigerian leaders in London on Thursday to discuss how to make Nigeria better than what it is currently, adding that they are consulting widely with those who mean well for the country.

He spoke when he interacted with journalists at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa in Ikwerre Local Government Area, shortly after arrival from London on Friday.

Wike was in the company of the governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom and his Abia State counterpart, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.

“I can confirm that this is the first time as a team that we are meeting with presidential candidates,” Wike said.

“We met with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC and we met with our leader, former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo.

“We met the presidential candidate of the Labour Party. We also met with our presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. For whatever it is worth, consultation is ongoing.

“Whatever we’re talking about, is for the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians. It’s not parochial and tied to one person or group of persons.

“We believe that with what is going on, it will be for the interest of Nigerians at the end of the day.”

He added, “Consultation is still ongoing. Never mind some people who do not believe in the existence of this country.

“Leadership isn’t about you and your family. Leadership is about everybody. It is unfortunate that we are in a country now where a man finishes eight years as a governor and brings his own son as a governor too and as a member of the National Assembly.

“It is only in this part of the world that you can see that when we are talking about poverty everywhere. These are people who don’t mean well for Nigeria.”

The unity of the nation is threatened by the northerners and not vice versa. All the others geopolitical zones have somehow tolerate the nuisance sense of belongings exhibited by the northern politicians .This nation need a true federal character such that will devolve centralized control of national resources .In practical we need autonomy of regional government or state government. The idea of another zone laying claims to other regional resources need be aborted .Each state or geopolitical zones should have unilateral policy and autonomy over its regional mineral deposits and revenue .If this issues of resources control is settled then we can manage the union for the sake of protectionism of the unity of the country .
