The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited says it has uncovered an illegal oil connection from Forcados Terminal used for oil theft for nine years.

This was made known by the Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, Mele Kyari, at the Senate’s joint committees on Gas and Petroleum (Upstream and Downstream).

“Oil theft in the country has been going on for over 22 years but the dimension and rate it assumed in recent times is unprecedented” Kyari said

According to him, a four-kilometer illegal oil connection line from Forcados Terminal into the sea which had been in operation for nine years was detected during a clampdown in the past six weeks. He also stated that the Brass, Forcados, and Bonny terminals were all practically doing zero production.

''The combined effect is that you have lost 600,000 barrels per day when you do a reality test.

As a result of oil theft, Nigeria loses about 600,000 barrels per day, which is not healthy for the nation’s economy, and in particular, the legal operators in the field, which had led to a close down of some of their operational facilities.”

Members of the committees proposed that capital punishment be put in place for offenders, which will be presented at plenary for consideration.

I'd bet that pipeline did not exist outside the knowledge of some of the same officials. 600,000 barrels/Day - that's a lot of money! And this just reflects on effectiveness of this administration. Disgraceful!

As if you people are unaware of the theft, where is the technology that was supposed to monitor these pipelines you people spent our money on? What about the billions y’all give to that fat pig from Bayelsa to watch the operation in the Niger Delta. What are the navy doing? How about the coast guard and other security apparatus to watch oil moment . Y’all are involved lying ass.

Because  the  South  South people  who claim that they  own the  oil easily  succumbed  to  DIVIDE AND RULE  tactics of the  North. A South South indigene  believes  in a northerner  more than his igbo neighbour . That is their  greatest  foolish  mistake.  Now  they  have  completely  lost ownership and control of the resources.  They  North has turned them  to ordinary  pipelines  surveillance  rats while  the Kyaris control the oil.
