Daily Trust reports that the remaining 23 Abuja-Kaduna train victims who were kidnapped by terrorists were rescued on Thursday. Following their release, they have finally reunited with their families. The families of the victims had in the early hours of Thursday waited patiently for long hours to receive their loved ones who have been in the hands of their abductees for over six months.

President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier met with the victims at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, before they were taken to the NAF Hospital. DAILY POST reliably gathered that some of the victims are in critical condition and are receiving treatment at the NAF Hospital. Explaining how the victims were rescued from their abductors, Dr AbdulMalik Atta, a member of the Presidential Committee that facilitated the rescue of the hostages, who spoke on Channels Television’s live interview, said that the terrorists’ negotiator, Malam Tukur Mamu, did everything within his reach to thwart the federal government’s efforts at rescuing the hostages for his own interest.

He further explained that Malam Tukur Mamu derailed the entire process by bringing money into the whole issue, saying that the terrorists never asked for money. Atta, who is also a son of one of the kidnapped victims said, “because of Mamu’s introduction of money into the rescue process, the victims’ families had parted with over $200,000 prior to the Chief of Defence Staff’s intervention.”

According to him, the Presidential Committee made life-threatening sacrifices, as they had to go into the forest to meet with the terrorists and even slept in the bush. He stated that it has been six months and one week, but thanked God that everything has come to an end now and lauded the support from the federal government through the office of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
