Why Do We As People Think Our Religion Is Better Than Someone Else's?

Whether is Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Taoism, … etc. Why do we as people think our religion is better than someone else's?  Are we that conceited or are we just blind to see that there is no true answer out there of existence of a higher being. I do believe in this higher being and I'm aware of his presence. But why is religion becoming a topic that people around the world are fighting and killing themselves over. Will society ever accept all religions? Will religion eventually be erased from society? Will this higher being show his or her face on this Earth?

@poster I wonder the same damn thing everyday.  It's 2011 and religious killings are still going on, different century, same stinking shit.  Just looks at much of the posts on this board and you will know the state of the religious minds.   Hatred abounds, whatever love supposedly exists in the heart of some only exist for their own group.  Only mother nature can humble us, only when the earth boils, the waves lash and the earthquakes shake and swallow up the masses will some calm  abound, for at least 100 years until the cycle of fckry begins again.   The earth needs a removal of every single human being from the planet for at least 10,000 years, just to heal and come back to equilibrium.   Pardon the use of offensive language, sometimes no other words can be substituted to get across the emotions felt.
