LITTLE ELM, Texas — Authorities say former Nigerian soccer star Uche Okafor committed suicide at his Dallas-area home this week. He was 43.

Okafor's body was discovered Thursday afternoon by his wife in their house in Little Elm, a town about 30 miles northwest of Dallas. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office said Friday that he hanged himself in an upstairs hallway.

Okafor played on the 1994 Super Eagles team that won the African Cup of Nations. Nigeria reached the second round of the World Cup that year and again in 1998, with Okafor on the team both times.

Okafor played for the Kansas City Wizards, now Sporting Kansas City, from 1996 to 2000.

According to the Sporting Kansas City website, Okafor was part of the Kansas City roster that debuted in 1996 and he played with the team until 2000, appearing in 119 regular season games and another seven in the postseason. He was part of the Kansas City team that won the MLS Cup in 2000, logging 16 minutes as a substitute in the championship game at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., that year

Lord please take his soul and pardon his inequities. Please be a guardian angel and the promised comforter to the loved ones he left behind, AMEN!

ADVICE: Never wish you have someone else's life because on the outside, everything might seem bright and jolly...but you never know what lies behind those smile and jolliness (true happiness or anguish and sorrow masked with smiles.

This is a very sad news both for the family and soccer fans all over Africa.
May his soul rest in peace.  Mr. Uche Okafor was much loved by his fans, myself included. Who could forget his
contributions to Nigerian soccer?
We do not know what drove him to commit suicide but in most cases suicide is associated with depression
and feelings of hopelessness.
This should be a wake up call for people to learn the warning signs of people in distress. In Seattle, USA,
where I live, the suicide rate has been reduced because people have learned to look out for signs that may
lead to suicide and intervene. Usually, depression and feeling hopeless can be noticed.
It should never be a shame to seek help when someone is depressed.
Again, I wish his family God's blessing s and help during this trying times.

Uche Okafor rest in perfect peace. But is quite unfortunate that the damage has been done already, you should have think it the other way round, that some people are even praying to be like you, i mean to be in your status. ADIEU OKAFOR.
