Tope Alabi, an activist-lawyer in Lagos, has filed a motion at the Federal High Court in Lagos seeking permission to initiate contempt proceedings against the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.

Alabi alleged that Emefiele disobeyed the Supreme Court orders on its naira redesign policy, which has affected the day-to-day running of his office and caused inconvenience to his staff and other members of the public.

Alabi stated that the Supreme Court had ordered Emefiele to allow old naira notes to coexist as legal tender with the new notes until December 2023, but Emefiele has failed to comply with the order.
