Property worth millions of naira were destroyed by rainstorm in some parts of Akure, the Ondo State capital and some other towns in the state.

It was gathered that the rainstorm was caused by a downpour which occurred on Tuesday in the affected communities.

This came some days after a similar incident happened in Ilara Mokin community in the Ifedore Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that some of the areas in Akure, where the rain wreaked havoc include Danjuma, Ayedun, High school and Leo. The rainstorm was said to have also destroyed houses in Ore town in the Odigbo Local Government Area.

It also vandalised houses, shops, schools, electric poles, maternity centre, church, among others, at the affected areas.

However no life was reportedly lost in the incident. To this end, some of the affected residents of the communities have called on the federal and state governments to assist them to cushion the effect of the loss.

One of the victims, Mrs Musa Kadijat, described the incident as a calamity for herself and her tenants.

She said, “A network mast of an old generational bank fell on our roof and destroyed it. All my tenants cannot sleep in their rooms because of the rain.”

Another victim, Mr Samson Olayemi, narrated that shops and house were were vandalised by the rainstorm, stating that millions of naira items were destroyed in the shop and inside the building.

“I don’t know what to say than to appeal to the state and federal governments to help. The loss is too much for me to bear. I need assistance,” he appealed.
