A jobless man, Sikiru Ogungbadero, 42, has jumped into the Lagos lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge to end his life due to joblessness and frustration, but he was rescued by some fishermen at the scene who brought him out of the lagoon.
After he regained consciousness, he was arrested by policemen from the Yaba Division and charged before the Yaba Magistrate’s Court on a one-count charge of attempting to commit suicide, an offence punishable under Section 327 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The incident occurred on 4 January, 2011 at about 1 p.m.
During interrogation, Ogungbadero told the police that he wanted to commit suicide to end his life because he could not get job and and was being insulted by his family members who always call him a useless man.
“I can not bear the insult anymore and I walked to the Third Mainland Bridge and jumped into the lagoon,” he reportedly told the police.
When the charge was read to him, he pleaded guilty and the presiding magistrate ordered that he should be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons till the next adjourned date to enable his parents in the village come to Lagos and take him back home.
The matter has been adjourned till 31 January, 2011.

PUTTING HIM IN PRISON IS NOT THE BEST. THE BEST COULD HAVE  BEEN FOR THEM TO FIND HIM WHAT TO DO. THAT KIND THING WILL NOT HAPPEN IN EUROPE BECAUSE THEIR GOVT PROVED PEOPLE LIKE THAT. THE MONEY NIGERIA HAS SOME COUNTRY IN EUROPE DO NOT HAVE IT.

why will they arrest him?
If he had died will they arrest his corpse?
Instead of them to do something about it,there are their charging him for nothing.
Stupid people...

What tha F***.. That makes no sense. .Don't they have a psyche ward or something at least. That Law shud def be amended..
