The senate has gone into a closed-door session following an Impasse over ministerial nominee, Festus Keyamo’s screening.

This ensued after Senators from Abia state, Darlington Nkwocha and Eyinanya Abaribe, moved a motion citing section 88B to mandate the Senate to step down the screening of Festus Keyamo for “publicly ignoring summons from the national assembly”.

The senate chamber became rowdy for at least 10 minutes after the motion was moved.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio who stood up to restore normalcy at the chamber, called the Senators to order while pointing out everyone have to remain silent each time he stands, in line with the laws of the senate.

Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele who was beckoned on to “lead the House” by Akpabio, moved two motions, first for the Senate to extend the time for the Senate sitting beyond 2 pm and the second session to dissolve into an executive or closed-door session.

The motions were scaled through while the screening of Keyamo was deferred. Akpabio said the Senate now resolved to go into a closed-door session “to iron out an issue of national concerns.”
