Ebitari, the wife of late Olafuro Peterside, a father of three, who was shot dead by a trigger-happy mobile policeman in the presence of his family in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State last week is demanding for justice over the gruesome murder.
The 39- year -old mother of three also dismissed claim by Rivers Police Command’s Spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, that her husband was killed by a stray bullet fired by the policemen who were chasing robbers.
Ebitari who spoke with journalists in Port Harcourt amidst sobs alleged that the police man who killed her husband shot him directly while they were inside their car and were about to drive off from the Bennis Lounge, Elekahia are of Port Harcourt.
Narrating the incident that led to the death of her husband, Ebitari said her husband took her and three kids aged 15, 13 and 11 for a sit out at Bennis Lounge Elekahia, Port Harcourt when suddenly they started hearing gunshots following reports of robbery attack around the area
She said it was at that point of they left the lounge and wanted to drive out when a police team arrived and one of them stood in front of the car and shot her husband in his chest at pointblank range.
While expressing shock that the police officer would shoot and kill her husband without provocation, the mother of three pleaded for justice for her late husband.
The Rivers State Police Command had told journalists that the officer who shot Peterside dead the was attached to Gombe mobile police unit and he had been arrested along with others who responded to the robbery incident for investigations.
Meanwhile, the Police Command has not given any update on their investigation of the incident.
Our Correspondent reports that in September 2020 within same axis of Port Harcourt, a policeman attached to a private property in an Estate in Elekahia shot one Daniel Chibuike, an upcoming Singer, popularly known as “Slit” dead, alleging that he was a robbery suspect.
