The military junta in Gabon has arrested one of the sons of Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba. He was arrested for “treason”. The ousted president has also been placed under house arrest alongside some of his family members. “President Ali Bongo is under house arrest, surrounded by his family and doctors,” they said in a statement read out on state TV.

The coupists struck in the early hours of Wednesday, annulling Saturday’s election, which Bongo was declared to have won. The soldiers announced the dissolution of all the institutions of the republic, the parliament, and shut down Gabon’s borders, saying their actions were on behalf of the central African nation’s security and defence forces.

Details later…

Russia is definitely behind the recent coups in Africa. They want to be in control these countries and use them to get at western countries. This will be a case of blind leading the blind. Russians are not trustworthy. Relying on them is a huge mistake because their president is a known liar.

Leave Russia out of this. People are tired of these lying bunch of politicians or ain't you tired??? You think it's ok for one single family, just father and son, to be ruling a nation since 1967??? And it's not as if they've developed this nation, Gabon is just about 2.2m in population, and they are richly blessed with oil and other natural resources and tourist centres, yet the people are highly impoverished.  They have failed their people!

…I DO UNDERSTAND YOUR ARGUMENTS. YOU ARE NOT FAR FROM THE TRUTH. BUT THE SAD THING ABOUT COUP PLOTTERS IS THAT THEY TOO ENDS UP NOT BEING ABLE TO OFFER THE PEOPLE ANY HOPE OR BETTER STANDARDS OF LIVING. IN MOST CASES, COUP PLOTTERS REMAIN IN POWER FOR YEARS WITHOUT ANY VISIBLE PROGRESS BEING MADE. THE IDIOT WHO KILLED THOMAS SANKARA RULED FOR 27 YEARS. AT THE END HE WAS CHASED OUT OF OFFICE. HE SIMPLY DID NOTHING TO IMPROVE THE LIVING STANDARD OF HIS PEOPLE. I HAVE NEVER SEEN IN AFRICA WHERE COUP PLOTTERS TOOK OVER POWER AND PERFORM BETTER THAN THE PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT. SAME THING IN NIGERIA.

You are right. Trust me it's not as if I support this present day military men to rule, trust me theirs will even be worse. At least with these politicians people can still complain and air their frustrations, but with these soldiers, they'll shoot you in the head and nothing will happen. It's just sad. Africans are at crossroads... May the Almighty have mercy on us.
