...Returns home soon, say Obi, Uwazuruike

Ojukwu

Tension over the state of health of the first Nigerian graduate soldier and ex-Biafran warlord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu was yesterday doused by Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State who said the Ikemba Nnewi was doing very well at a United Kingdom hospital.

Obi, who just returned to the state from the UK told newsmen at the Government House, Awka, that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) national leader was increasingly recovering from the ailment that took him to the UK hospital.

Ojukwu, who was down with stroke was flown to the UK for treatment but both the governor and his (Ojukwu) close associates had refused to disclose the hospital he was in to avoid too many visitors.

Answering questions from newsmen, Obi said, “I was with him and I’m impressed with his response to treatment. He was far better than the last time we saw him. And he will be back to Anambra as soon as his doctors want him to do so.”

In the same vein, the leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has declared that Biafran warlord, Odimegwu Ojukwu who had been receiving treatment in a London hospital may soon return to the country. Uwazuruike, yesterday, in his country home, Okwe, in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State told journalists that Ojukwu had been discharged from the intensive care unit of the hospital few days ago.

He said, “ I am happy to inform you that we are expecting our great leader very soon and for more than a week now he (Ojukwu) has been out of the intensive care unit of the hospital. He is now a normal person living his normal life.

“I spoke to him few days ago after talking to his wife, Bianca. We are happy that he has recovered. He is just recuperating. God loves the Igboman and God knows that this son of ours is very important to us. We prayed for him and God answered our prayers. Ojukwu is our hero. He is our father; we will continue to support him,” he stated.

In addition, Uwazuruike denied rumours making the rounds in Imo State that MASSOB was supporting a particular governorship candidate in the state. He said the group was apolitical and its members did not belong to any registered political party in the country. He said, “I am a Biafran and every member of MASSOB is a Biafran. We don’t participate in Nigerian politics and how can we support a Nigerian political party?”
