The police in Osun on Friday arraigned two men before an Ile-Ife Magistrate Court for allegedly breaking into an apartment and stealing cocoa beans worth N250,000.
The defendants, Felix Philip, 20 and Michael Julius, 20, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary, and stealing.
They, however, denied the charges preferred against them by the police.
The prosecutor, ASP Abdullahi Emmanuel, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on September 19, 2023, at Mosarajo village, Ile-Ife.
Emmanuel alleged that the defendants broke into and entered the house of one Olajide Rotimi and stole his one-and-a-half bags of dried cocoa beans, valued at N250,000.
The offences, he said, were contrary to and punishable under Sections 390(9), 411, and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Osun 2002.
The magistrate, Kikelomo Adebayo, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.
Adebayo said that the surety must swear an affidavit of means and reside within the court’s jurisdiction, in addition to evidence of a three-year tax clearance certificate.
She thereafter adjourned the case until October 17.
