According to him, some illegal oil bunkerers had vandalised the petroleum pipeline that passed through the community and diverted the contents to already dug pits where they siphoned the liquid for sale.
He said: “We uncovered over 100 oil wells at Ilashe, where these vandals stored the petroleum. They allow the contents to flow directly at the wells where they fetch it for sale.”
Laleye said that the task force had since arrested two people that were involved in the nefarious activities and that they were being prosecuted by the state government.
At Ije-Ododo where one vandal was arrested, Laleye said that over 200 kegs were recovered with 98 of them fully filled with petroleum in October last year.
According to him, the arrest of the hoodlums was possible because of the collaboration between the NNPC and the state government to monitor the areas.
He said that the anti-vandalism team worked with NNPC security men to apprehend the vandals who had devised new ways of damaging the pipeline for their selfish gains.
Lamenting the intensity of damage on pipeline at Ijeododo, Laleye said that the task team had stormed the place, following a tip-off by good citizens on the activities of the saboteurs in the areas.
“We will keep on monitoring every part of the state where pipeline passes through,” Laleye said.
